Free Arabic Classes!

Ross Kaplan TeachingIn Fall 2002, DC Internationals started to offer the Free Arabic Program at the George Washington University Hillel located in Washington DC . The Arabic program bridges gaps between Muslims and non-Muslims through Arabic language courses which accentuate the cultural and linguistic aspects of Arabic and Muslim peoples. Forums such as the Arabic program have enabled hundreds of Jewish and non-Jewish GWU students and members of the Greater Washington DC community to explore difference and locate common ground.

As of November 2007, the GWU Hillel is the first and only Hillel in the United States to offer an Arabic program. George Washington University President Emeritus Stephen Joel Trachtenberg and DC Internationals collaborated to make this cross-cultural project a reality, beginning in fall 2002. DC Internationals applauds the GWU Hillel for its forward leaning perspective by providing a venue for clases.

This program serves the need to improve our perceptions of and increase our understanding of those different from us. Given this important need, I extend a warm welcome to all GWU and non-GWU students to attend future Free Arabic classes, to foster intellectual pursuit, mutual respect, learn an increasingly important language, and equally important, to have fun!
