Academic GoalsDari/Persian I begins by teaching the Arabic alphabet as it is used in writing Dari/Persian. The rudiments of Dari/Persian grammar will be taught gradually. Each lesson will include grammar, a dialogue or reading passage, with vocabulary, grammatical explanations, and exercises. Each class will begin by going over the exercises from the previous lesson, thereby reviewing that lesson before proceeding with the next one. In addition to the material covered in the lessons, which will be passed out at each class meeting, there will be classroom conversation. Students will be expected to purchase the course materials.Students will be encouraged to listen to Dari/Persian radio and television stations available on the internet.
While augmenting our lexicon all the while, we will be able to read, write and speak basic sentences in present and past tenses. Handouts will facilitate all of the above mentioned. Differences between the Persian of Iran and of Afghanistan will be pointed out where appropriate. Books and MaterialsStudents are responsible to purchase the following books at the suggested locations.
There will be a $25 late fee for course registration after classes begin.
