FOREIGN LANGUAGE AREA STUDIES (FLAS) SUMMER 2018 CRITICAL LANGUAGES INSTITUTE

Program Description

Distinctively different from the MESALI Summer Intensive program, the Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Summer Intensive program has 140 contact hours, Department of Education ILR standards, and the tuition is based on official FLAS scholarship amounts

In response to the government, NGO, and private sector increased demand for professional and practical skills in critical languages, DC Internationals MESALI has established the MESALI Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Summer Intensive Language Institute. MESALI offers 140 hours of intensive instruction in Arabic, Chinese, French, Hindi, Korean, Kurdish, Persian, Spanish, Russian, and Urdu.

Located in the nation’s Capital, the FLAS 140 hour program offers morning and afternoon time options. The 140 hour course meets the official Department of Education language course requirements and standards for students who already received FLAS funding.

Semester Duration: Starting Monday June 4 and ending  August 10, 2018

Registration Deadline: March 1 or when classes fill; rolling admissions

Why you should choose MESALI:

MESALI professors comprise a rich variety of native speakers with decades of professional training experience. They offer cutting edge language skills and custom tailored instruction for Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) scholarship recipiants and those preparing to take the foreign service officer language exam; providing the MESALI bump to those waiting on the FSO waiting list. They train and provide official assessments to Fulbright, Boren, FLAS, and other scholarship applicants, as well as university students seeking language placement examinations and waivers. For decades, they developed official language materials for the U.S. government, and official written translations and live interpretation. Our highly trained and qualified staff apply standards of the Inter-agency Language Roundtable (ILR) and the American Councils for International Education.
